Japanese vintage print: Crane in a winter landscape by Studio Pieternel

● Exclusive design for Werk aan de Muur / Art Heroes Bring the serene tranquillity of nature into your home with this vintage Japanese illustration. The image depicts a majestic Japanese crane, standing elegantly in a babbling brook amidst a snow-covered winter landscape. The subtle details of the white feathers, the striking red crest and the reeds along the water’s edge exude pure tranquillity. The background of snow-covered pine trees enhances the wintery, tranquil atmosphere.

This work is inspired by the traditional Japanese shin-hanga movement of the early twentieth century, particularly the refined style of the artist Ohara Koson. This style is known for modernising the classical woodblock print art (ukiyo-e), with a focus on lifelike depictions of birds and flowers (kacho-ga). It combines traditional Eastern techniques with a subtle Western interplay of light and depth.

Thanks to the soft, natural tones and minimalist composition, this piece fits perfectly with current interior design trends.

It blends seamlessly with a Japandi interior, where Scandinavian design and Japanese simplicity come together. In a botanical, modern or minimalist interior style, this piece also adds a stylish and calming accent to, for example, the living room, bedroom or hallway.
