Ine No Funaya: The Boathouses on the Bay
This rustic and fascinating work depicts the famous fishing village of Ine (Ine-chō), located in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. The row of houses along the bay is world-famous for its unique funaya architecture.
Funaya are traditional boathouses built directly on the water, with the ground floor containing the mooring for the boats and the floor above that containing the living quarters. The work captures the long, continuous row of these dark, wooden structures, which contrast beautifully with the bright greenery of the densely forested hills in the background.
The calm water in the foreground creates an almost perfect reflection of the houses and forest, giving a deep, serene atmosphere. This work is a unique representation of Japanese coastal culture and the harmony between human architecture and nature.
Welcome to my shop, as you may have already seen, there are many works from Italy. I like to photograph there.
