The Berliner Stadtschloss is the former winter residence of the Margrave and Elector of Brandenburg. Later it was the residence of the King of Prussia and the German Emperor. The Berliner Stadtschloss stands on Spree Island in the centre of Berlin on Schloßplatz.
During the Second World War it burned down in 1945. In 2002, the German Federal Government and the Berlin City Council decided to rebuild the castle. At the end of 2010, the construction of the castle began.
Jan van Call (Nijmegen, 1656 - The Hague, 1703 or 1706) was a Dutch painter and engraver.
Van Call was a self-taught artist who became known for the many landscapes, townscapes and buildings he drew and engraved. He made a long journey via Germany and Switzerland, along the Rhine, to Rome, producing many works along the way.
