About the artwork

*** Attention: Real photography - no AI! ***

Ahlbeck is one of the most famous German seaside resorts and the largest of the three imperial spas on Usedom.

The pier in Ahlbeck is the oldest of its kind in Germany. It leads over the beach to a platform with a restaurant and also extends 280 metres into the sea. In 1882, work began on building a wooden walkway across the beach, which led to a platform directly by the sea, on which wooden structures for a restaurant and stage sections were erected. It was not until 1898 that a jetty was built in front of it, which extended 280 metres into the Baltic Sea. Both parts were connected at the beginning of the 20th century.

In Ahlbeck there are a number of striking buildings of spa architecture, which had its heyday during the Gründerzeit. A promenade connects Ahlbeck with 2 other seaside resorts, which are collectively known as the "Kaiserbäder". These are the seaside resorts of Bansin and Heringsdorf. The neighbouring seaside resorts of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin grew together over the course of time to such an extent that in the 20th century they were also referred to as "the three sisters". They are connected to Swinemünde on the Polish side by a twelve-kilometre-long beach promenade.
