Interior of the St Bavo church in Haarlem, Pieter Jansz. Saenredam, 1636 Original: oil on panel, 55x95 Saenredam was a specialist in painting architecture. He studied structures and made detailed drawings, which he turned into paintings. Here he chose a viewpoint from behind an arch, creating a second frame. This automatically raises the gaze to the old organ, which is painted with the resurrection of Christ: a remnant of Catholic decorations long since abolished at the time.
