Ins Blaue hinein (out of the blue) by JipvanZeist

I had a ‘conversation’ with the virtual Bach about colour and music. I produced a magazine on this subject called ‘Ins Blaue hinein’, which you can find out more about on my website jipvanzeist.nl

‘Ins Blaue hinein’ is an expression meaning that you simply start somewhere and see where it takes you. This was certainly not the approach taken by the composer Johann Sebastian Bach: he was very structured in his music and demanding in his performances. He has achieved the status of a global superstar. Many singers who venture into Bach’s compositions can scarcely measure up to that… Yet they try, sometimes ins Blaue hinein.

This choir conductor leads a choir that tries to sing the notes as well as possible, but perfection is not really achievable. That doesn’t matter as long as they sing with conviction and dedication.

In the background are conducting beats, which indicate how a conductor keeps time. Some Bach connoisseurs will also recognise Johann Sebastian Bach’s musical signature in the background.

This is a digital work, in which I drew the faces by hand, so that each singer has been given their own expression.
