This monkey lay comfortably in a hammock between the trees to rest and enjoy the sunlight that gently shine through the treetops. This shot was made in Gaiazoo Kerkrade, South Limburg Netherlands.
Red howler monkeys eat the leaves and fruits of nearly 200 kinds of plants. Sometimes flowers, seeds and twigs are also on the menu. Leaf is difficult to digest and it delivers little energy. With their pointy teeth, however, red howler monkeys can chew the leaves well. Their stomach and intestines are also adapted to the digestion of leaves. They can therefore eat even the ripe leaves that other animals leave behind. To save energy, red howler monkeys rest for a large part of the day.
