Matera in Italy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a reason. On every street corner there is something beautiful to see. The cave houses are of course the most spectacular, but all the other houses are also beautiful. For a while, the city was something of a ghost town. Because of the poor hygiene and many people on top of each other, diseases kept breaking out. As a result, people left the old center. Later the facilities got better and now people live there again under better conditions. Wonderful to wander around here and take pictures.
