Hong Kong City Art – Symmetry and Reflection in Kowloon by Photo Wall Decoration

I took this photo in Kowloon, Hong Kong, during a work trip where I’d already marked out a number of special locations to photograph. This impressive building complex, which houses a hotel amongst other things, had been on my list for some time. The geometry, the height and, above all, the reflections make it a dream location for architectural photography.

Armed with a tripod, camera and an ultra-wide 12mm lens, I set off once more. I’d been here before, but when a location is this good, I like to return to see if I can capture an even stronger composition. This time, too, I was searching for an original angle, as the many reflective windows offer endless possibilities.

For this shot, I stood with my back against one of the buildings, positioned my camera tightly and high against the wall, and immediately saw that this was the right composition. The lines, the depth and the reflections all came together perfectly. Sometimes you just know straight away that an image is right, and that’s what I felt here.

But simply pressing the shutter isn’t enough for me. At home, I edit 99% of my photos on a large screen, using a fast desktop, a Wacom tablet and professional software. That’s where I add the calm, precision and finishing touches needed to make my images suitable for my shop at Werk aan de Muur.

In my shop you’ll find more unique photos from Hong Kong, including architecture, skyline shots and urban fine art:
