About "Hoge Veluwe in autumn (1)"

About the artwork

Yellow, red and orange leaves on the ground, beautiful mushrooms, heady days, bird migration: autumn is in full swing. And meanwhile, nature is getting ready for the approaching winter.

Autumn started around 21 September and ends around 21 December.

In autumn, you will find a veritable sea of colours in the forest. The green leaves on the trees disappear in autumn, making way for red, orange, yellow and brown leaves. As the sun shines less, the production of chloroplasts in the leaves stops. The effect: discoloured leaves.

Leaf cover
In autumn, many trees shed their leaves. Trees do this because they do not have enough nutrients to care for the leaves in winter: so, as a precaution, the tree drops them. These fallen leaves create a beautiful canopy, which in turn serves as a shelter for animals in the forest.

Winter supplies
Some animals are very busy in autumn preparing for hibernation. Think squirrels, hedgehogs and bats. There are now plenty of nuts in the forest, which hedgehogs and squirrels gratefully collect and store for their winter supplies.
