Hindeloopen (Standard Frisian: Hylpen, Hindeloopers: Hielpen, Wood Frisian and Kleifries: Hynljippen) is a town in the Dutch municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, province of Friesland. The city is after Sloten the smallest of the Frisian eleven cities. In 2021 it had 850 inhabitants, of which over 70 live in the relatively large outlying area of the town. Hindeloopen was an independent municipality until 1984.
The city was once an important trading port and closely tied to the Hanseatic League. Because of its isolation from the hinterland it has developed its own culture and dialect, which distinguishes it from the rest of Friesland. The city center lies directly on the IJsselmeer and through it run the waters called De Zijlroede and Indijk.
The city lies southwest of Workum, northwest of Koudum and north of Molkwerum. It has a large marina at the IJsselmeer with some holiday homes, a holiday park and a few campgrounds.
