The Himba (or Ovahimba) are a people group in north-western Namibia . The Himba are nomads and live mainly from their cattle. Himba women rub themselves with otjize, a mixture of goat fat, herbs and ochre. The ochre gives the women the typical red colour. The mixture protects them from the sun. Jewellery is also important to the Himba. They make these from shells, leather and copper. The most important piece of jewellery for Himba women is the ohumba, a shell that hangs from a chain around their neck. Both men and women wear very little clothing.
