Photo in black and white taken in the park near Fort V in Edegem, a suburb of Antwerp. It is a place where I often take photos, because of the beautiful morning and evening light. In this photo, the recently risen sun together with the historical surroundings create a fairy-tale atmosphere. The façade of the military structure jumps out of the overgrowth. The backlight reduces a walking couple to silhouettes.
There are several such forts around Antwerp, part of a 19th-century defence line named after General Brialmont. Most forts are now in use as recreational areas and are no longer on the outskirts of the city but in the middle of the built-up area. Together with some "ordinary" parks, they form the green lungs of the Antwerp region. In the morning, you will come across joggers, people walking their dogs, but sometimes also a walking couple, like this time.
