Hidden stories of decline and growth by Cindy Mulder

A red wall, marked by the passage of time, forms the backdrop to this atmospheric composition. A concrete staircase with a metal handrail and balusters leads upwards, but a simple wooden gate blocks the way, raising questions about what lies beyond.

Beneath the staircase, a green wooden door catches the eye. The peeling plaster reveals a white undercoat, bringing to light the traces of decay and history. An electricity meter and a broken outdoor lamp reinforce the everyday character of the scene and lend the work an authentic, almost documentary-like feel.

At the foot of the wall and along the façade, plants find their own way upwards. Their fresh green forms a vivid contrast with the red of the wall and the cool grey of the concrete. This creates an image in which transience and resilience meet.

This work invites you to linger and look a little longer. It captures the beauty of imperfection and shows how architecture, signs of wear and nature come together to tell a story. A characterful artwork for lovers of urban photography, tranquil architecture and the poetry of everyday places.

Thanks to the warm red tones, the fresh green and the rich textures, this piece feels at home in both modern and industrial interiors. It brings character, depth and a story to the wall. Corfu, Greece Photographed with love! Cindy Mulder
