The Heddal stave church is the largest stave church in Norway. The church dates from the beginning of the 13th century and is located in the municipality of Notodden, in the province of Telemark. Stave churches get their name from the unique construction method with which they are made, in which the church is supported by these vertical 'columns'. It is one of the region's top attractions.
