According to our travel guide Gulfoss is one of Iceland's most beautiful waterfalls. The water of Gulfoss falls in two staircases at right angles to each other, more than 32 metres down.
The crashing water (an average of 130 m3 per sec. in summer) blows up large clouds of fine mist, which cause a beautiful rainbow, when the sun doesn't let it pass. The downside of the medal is that the fog in an unfavourable wind direction can make it rather difficult to photograph.
The rainbow gave him his name, the 'golden waterfall'. Unfortunately we did not have a rainbow during our visit, but we did have beautiful autumn colours!
