About the artwork

In the warm, humid butterfly greenhouse at Utrecht Botanical Gardens, I came face to face with something I had almost overlooked at first: a tiny butterfly with wings that... didn't actually seem to be hiding anything. Transparent, almost invisible. The Greta Oto, or glass-winged butterfly. I honestly thought at first: how boring, it doesn't even have colour.

But when I looked more closely - and the light fell just right - something magical happened. In the delicate, almost cracked structure of her wings, the sunlight broke into an array of soft rainbow colours. As if each minute crack became a prism. The transparency turned into something alive, something enchanting.

I decided to capture that moment as I felt it: vulnerable and powerful at the same time. The dark background emphasised the fragile nature of the butterfly and let those subtle colours speak even more intensely. What seemed dull at first suddenly became a play of light, fragility and wonder - a silent reminder of how beauty often only shows itself when you really look.

This photo reminds me that what seems inconspicuous is often the most special.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
