About the artwork
This black-and-white photo shows a scene in a shopping mall, taken from a higher perspective.
In the foreground, on the left, an elderly man sits on a bench. He is dressed in dark clothing and looking down at a phone he is holding in his hands. Just in front of the bench, a fence with black cords and metal poles can be seen demarcating an area.
Behind this fence and in the centre of the picture are several potted plants, adding some greenery to the otherwise rather monochrome environment. There is also a vertical billboard, with an image and a QR code underneath.
To the right of the centre, escalators leading to a higher floor are visible. Behind the escalators and plants, a more open space can be seen with glass structures and reflections, suggesting that it is a central hall or a passage to shops.
In the background, further away and to the left, a person with a backpack walks away from the viewer. The floor consists of lightly patterned tiles, and the lighting seems quite even, as is typical for indoor spaces. The black-and-white rendition of the picture emphasises the architectural lines and textures, and gives the scene a timeless, somewhat contemplative feel.
