Golden mineral veins – Yellowstone

by Frank Schröter Photography

Delicate orange and golden lines wind their way through the flat thermal landscape of Yellowstone National Park. Small watercourses, light-coloured deposits and darker edges form an intricate pattern. In the upper part of the image, a cool blue strip of water lies against the dark forest edge. The expansive composition links the many details in the foreground with the tranquil landscape beyond. The eye can follow the sinuous trails, shifting repeatedly between the broader expanse and the finer details. Warm ochre and orange tones contrast with silvery-light areas and the delicate blue of the water. Some forms are reminiscent of veins or small river landscapes, yet the subject never loses its recognisable natural setting.

This photograph by Frank Schröter showcases the diversity of textures created by water and mineral deposits in a geothermal landscape. The image was individually developed and retouched. As a wall hanging, it adds a warm splash of colour and invites the viewer to contemplate the lines, transitions and subtle surface textures at their leisure.
