About "Golden Fields and Past of Ba Chuc"

About the artwork

This photo captures the golden yellow landscape around Ba Chuc, where ripe rice fields stretch up to the green hills. The sun sets the crop in a warm glow and on the horizon, ridges of hills and a row of palm trees mark the transition from flat land to nature. The soft clouds and vast perspective breathe tranquillity, hope and the strength of the Vietnamese countryside.

This area carries not only natural beauty but also a deep historical charge. In April 1978, Ba Chuc became the tragic scene of one of the worst massacres in Vietnamese history. During the Ba Chuc Massacre, over 3,100 villagers were gruesomely killed by Khmer Rouge forces from Cambodia. This event shocked all of Vietnam and led to the Vietnamese intervention in Cambodia, which eventually ended the Khmer Rouge's reign of terror.

Today, monuments and memorials in Ba Chuc recall this tragedy, and show the resilience of the local people. Thus, among the golden rice fields and green mountains lies not only a place of beauty, but also of collective remembrance and hope for peace.
