Gateway to History: The Monastery and Tower of Goedereede by Robert Jan Smit

This enchanting street scene captures the essence of Goedereede, a former important port town and a jewel in Zuid-Holland. The picture, taken in the historic street Het Klooster, offers a perfectly framed view of Goedereede's impressive Tower. This tower is not only a monumental landmark, but also a silent witness to the heyday when Goedereede was still on the open sea and a crucial link in the trade route.

Goedereede's history dates back to the Middle Ages, when it acquired city rights and grew into a prosperous fortified town with a strategic location on the island of Goeree. The water, which has now receded, once brought prosperity and architecture that we can still admire today. The atmosphere in The Klooster, with its old houses and their magnificent facades, takes you back to those times.

This photography brings a piece of authentic Holland and Dutch villages into your interior. It is a tribute to the resilience and beauty of a city that cherishes its maritime past. The composition with the tower in the background gives a sense of continuity and tranquillity, while the narrow street offers an intimate view of the urban landscape.

Get not only an eye-catcher in your home with this timeless work, but also a piece of living history of the South Holland coast.
