In my work I like to look for special or funny moments in the everyday. This is typically such a moment, where the two swimmers in the foreground are totally unaware of what is happening behind them.
The surfer in the background has been caught in this image at the exact moment when only a leg and part of the surfboard protrude above the water surface, after the surfer has been washed away by the wave.
What I think works well in this image is the apparent contrast between the serene calm that emanates from the overall image with, in particular, the swimmers in the foreground on the one hand, and on the other hand, the somewhat predicament in which the surfer has placed himself.
It's also nice to mention that it was the middle of winter when this photo was taken. So despite the gentlemen in the foreground seem very relaxed, the seawater here was still really cold.
