Fractured Gaze and Cracked Screen

by Skye Studio

A cracked smartphone sits at the heart of the scene, its screen split into glassy shards that still glow with a blue social feed and a video player. Pressed against it, a face built from flat, angular facets looks out through two tired, red-rimmed eyes, as if the person and the device have become one broken shape. Around them swarm notification bubbles in hot red and electric blue, stamped with 99+ badges, mail envelopes, thumbs-up, share icons, warning marks and a nearly empty battery.

The muted olive, khaki and charcoal ground gives the neon reds and blues even more bite, while thin red outlines make everything vibrate slightly. The faceted, cubist-style drawing turns skin into planes and shadows, and the radiating lines pull the eye toward the splintered screen. Nothing here is calm: it captures the feeling of being watched, pinged and drained at once, with a touch of dark humour.

For viewers, it may feel instantly familiar, a portrait of digital overload, constant notifications and the strain of scrolling late into the night. It could spark conversation wherever it hangs, and sits well with people drawn to bold contemporary illustration, social commentary and expressive colour.
