About ‘Forester's House in Weissenbach II (Garden), Gustav Klimt’
Forester's House in Weissenbach II (Garden), Gustav Klimt (1914)
In the summer of 1914, Gustav Klimt vacationed in Weissenbach, a village on the southeastern shore of Lake Attersee in Austria's Salzkammergut region. He stayed at the forester's house, which he painted twice that year. The work captures the interplay of open and closed windows offering glimpses into the house and its surroundings, beneath a lush carpet of ivy. Vivid accents of flowering plants break through the predominantly green palette. For Klimt, nature was a source of strength and refuge from the pressures of daily life and demanding clients.
