About the artwork

The Vliegdennen, located in the beautiful Soesterduinen nature reserve, are a collection of ancient Scots pines that have been growing on this site for centuries. These majestic trees are not only an important part of the area's ecology, but also a favourite spot for hikers, nature lovers and photographers. The Soesterduinen are a unique nature reserve in the Netherlands and are known for their unusual Scots pines. These pines, also called pine trees, are distinctive for their imposing size and the striking red colour of their bark. What makes these Scots pines even more special is that they are able to survive in the poor sandy soils of the Soesterduinen. These conditions are too harsh for many other plants and trees, but the Scots Pine thrives there. The trees have long, deep roots that allow them to extract moisture and nutrients from the soil. They are also resistant to the strong wind that often blows over the Soesterduinen. In some trees, the sand is literally blown from between the roots, making them seem to fly. A walk through the Soesterduinen is not complete without a visit to these special trees. The Scots pines create an impressive sight and add to the unique atmosphere of this nature reserve. That is why they are also perfect for a work on the wall.
