The white flamingo is a rarity in Sardinia but can be found at Mari Ermi, a lagoon on the east coast of the island. This unique colour of the flamingo is due to a genetic defect called leucism, in which the pigmentation of the feathers is reduced. Although these flamingos appear white, they often have pink highlights on their feathers…
