About ‘Floral oneliner’ by Joan Engels

Floral oneliner is a work I made 2 years ago.

This one-line is a whimsical composition inspired by abstract wildflower, grass with leaves.

The cheerful colours and graphic black-and-white effect make the artwork a beautiful eye-catcher in most interiors.
The background is not pure white but off-white with various natural colour nuances.

Almost all my works I first start manually with a sketch then I painted the background
Over this, I painted over the sketched line drawing again with deep black clean lines to
achieve this graphic effect.

And then the images are digitally post-processed for reproduction at Werk aan de muur

Art should surprise, inspire and for me, being allowed to make art is not work but oxygen why I live.

Joan Engels is an artist but has also worked for 30 years as an illustrator/graphic designer for various publishers.
I am more picture maker and less talk maker
And where some like to read or write for relaxation I draw or paint....
I make a lot of commercial illustrations for my work but in my spare time, I enjoy creating real art more.
In my painting style, I like to choose evocative multi-colour use of colour and whimsical or just stylised lines.
