About "Faces of light: The flower in the machine"

by Klaus Tesching

About the artwork

What remains human when the exterior has long since taken on a metallic lustre? This portrait provides a possible answer. The woman stands in a pose of dignity, clarity and stillness, but her body - silver, flawless, seemingly made of a futuristic alloy - tells a different story.

Where one might expect coldness, something alive grows: a flower, delicate, luminous, has grown from a root that winds like veins over her shoulder. Next to it, green leaves of light entwine - almost like data sheets fuelled by photosynthesis.

The face remains human - warm, genuine, full of presence. Her gaze is directed into the distance, open, as if she is listening to a future that has not yet spoken.

Her neck and face are permeated by a connection between organic structure and technological form. There is no longer any separation between the natural and the artificial - only a new whole.

"The Flower in the Machine" is a face of light that attempts to reconcile the opposites of our time. It shows that even in a world of steel, circuits and control, there is still a place for tender growth - if we allow it.

A portrait of hope in the digital age. About rootedness in the midst of progress. And about the quiet power of the living in the seemingly inanimate.
