Face surrounded by bouquet of flowers

by Christian Ovís

A woman’s face appears amidst a rich array of orange and blue flowers. A large orange flower blooms above her forehead, whilst smaller blossoms and leaves frame her cheeks. One eye, the nose and the lips remain clearly visible. Surrounding the face are deep blue petals, round yellow accents and dark leaves. The almost black background makes the colours bright and intense.

The composition blends the portrait and the bouquet into one another. The smooth skin contrasts with the pleated petals and the small, grainy floral structures. Orange and blue enhance one another and draw the eye to the eye in the centre. At the outer edge, leaves fade into the shadows. This lends the central face extra depth, without the numerous botanical details losing their individual form. The vertical format emphasises the arrangement of flowers from above the head down to below the chin.

This expressive floral portrait suits a modern interior with strong colour accents. It can complement a dark blue wall, warm orange textiles or simple black furniture. In a tranquil living room or hall, the work creates a striking interplay between the human gaze and botanical forms.
