Landscape photo at 16/9 format taken at night. Threatening thunderstorms and heavy clouds. Ezumakeegis a nature reserve in the Netherlands, in the west of the Lauwersmeer area. This area is owned (like most of Lauwersmeer) by the Forestry Commission.

During migration time, many waders can be found here. As there are large numbers of birds here, there are often rarities among the more common species. So-called twitchers often come here to admire special species such as Siberian sandpiper, Bonaparte's sandpiper, stilt sandpiper, white-tailed lapwing, Asiatic golden plover, blond plover.

The Ezuma creek is a resting area with little disturbance, which is why species such as stilt-walker (northernmost breeding site in the world), bearded reedling and bittern come here to breed. In autumn and winter, large numbers of ducks and geese are often in the area.

Often, white-tailed eagles are in the area during the winter season as are great egrets. 'At night, many geese spend the night on the Ezumakeeg. Those geese then graze in the Anjummer Kolken during the day. These are mainly barnacle geese, with peculiarities in between such as dwarf goose (up to 50 in autumn and spring), red-necked goose, Ross' goose and other rarer geese.

In winters when there is ice, the Ezuma creek is a popular skating spot. As the water there is not deep, there is a quicker ice cover than on the surrounding canals and waterways.
