There are places that immediately have something magical about them. This view of the famous church of Jamnik, high above the Slovenian landscape, is one of them. I took this picture just after sunset, when the sky was slowly darkening and the mountains were still softly glowing in the last blue light. What touched me so much about this moment was the total tranquillity: just the soft silhouette of the church, the vast valley and the impressive Alps in the background.
My inspiration for this shot came from the silence and simplicity of this place. After walking uphill, in the fresh evening air, I felt detached from the world for a moment. The small church, in the middle of the hill, emphasises how insignificant you are sometimes in the face of nature - but also how special such places can feel.
The cool tones and clear sky give the picture a calm, almost dreamy atmosphere.
