Eusebius, the City Watchman
Like a sentinel, the Eusebius Tower rises, powerful and silent, against a summer blue sky. From the low perspective, it stretches upwards - grand and familiar. It marks the city not only geographically, but also in feeling: a point of orientation, of coming home.
The lines are apt, the colours bright and clear, but the hand remained loose. In line and wash - ink and watercolour - I sought the balance between firmness and openness. The work is robust, but alive, breathing.
The Eusebius keeps popping up in my work. Visible from many angles in Arnhem, it feels like an anchor in the landscape. Not only because of its history, but also because of its posture - straight and present.
The Eusebius is an enduring source of inspiration for me. You see him almost everywhere in Arnhem, like a silent sentinel whose presence gives peace and direction. He belongs to this city.
This work exudes strength and self-confidence. It stands firm, without being garish. And that is precisely what makes it so special on the wall: it not only brings a piece of Arnhem into your home, but also a sense of presence and strength - in a way that speaks quietly and firmly.
I paint what I like - and I find something beautiful in almost everything. Flowers, still lifes, landscapes, city scenes, people... fragments from everyday life that touch me. Always with colour, movement and a touch of individuality.
