The white-tailed eagle is an imposing, very large bird of prey of wetlands, also known as the flying door because of its size. It feeds on fish, waterfowl and carrion, especially when there is ice. For a long time a rare winter visitor, but nowadays even a breeding bird in the Netherlands in increasing numbers. Slow, deep wing beat, but often hovers on thermals in spring, summer and autumn. Usually solitary, but in places with plenty of food sea eagles can concentrate so now in the Oostvaardersplassen area.
Definitely one of the most sought-after birds to photograph for bird/nature photographers
