About the artwork
Colour and black and white are combined in a special way in this artwork.
Various organic shapes can be seen. These shapes contain a beautiful interplay of lines in which black and white play the main role. Each shape in this artwork is unique. They are not uniformly shaped, nor do they have the same pattern of black and white lines.
All these organic shapes together are an abstract interpretation of an elephant's head. A powerful elephant with large ears and two unequal tusks.
Elephants are special and social animals. They radiate strength and perseverance, but they also know emotions of sadness and love, showing the soft side of their character.
Elephants have thus been my inspiration for creating this artwork.
This artwork has as its base one homemade black and white photograph of a utilitarian ceramic object. This object has a beautiful black and white stripe pattern. By multiplying this photo and distorting each one, I created the different organic shapes. By combining all these different shapes, the head of the elephant was created.
As a background, I chose a colourful contrast. A beautiful and warm yellow colour that contrasts beautifully with the black and white of the elephant but also enhances the shapes of the abstract elephant.
The yellow background can be replaced by another colour if desired.
