About "Eider ducks, who doesn't know them...."

About the artwork

If you love birds and seals, there are two islets near Germany that you can visit by boat. For the many birds, Helgoland is a true delight. Many species of birds breed here such as the Gannet and Razorbills among others.

The other islet, located off Helgoland, is called Düne.
Here the seals come to chill out and baby seals can be admired. I was there in spring so then you only see the adult seals. Nice and lazy and bulky. An occasional stampede or a bit of playfulness but mostly laziness.

On Düne, you will not only find seals but also many species of birds, especially the smaller ones.

While lying on my belly enjoying the seals, I suddenly saw three beautiful ducks waddling towards the sea. I had never seen them before and had to do a quick search on the internet to find out what species these were. Eider ducks.
They are still ducks and yet I found that they have beautiful markings on their heads and bodies and became cheerful at the sight.

I deliberately photographed the out-of-focus front duck like this because I thought there was something endearing about the way the female duck looked at the male on the right.
