Wherever you walk in downtown Oxford, the rich history comes at you. Not only the impressive university colleges scattered throughout the city, but also the streets around it breathe the atmosphere of centuries ago. You feel this most strongly when in the early morning the city has yet to wake up and it is quiet without the tourists and traffic. Modern details that are inescapable in the street are softened or do not stand out in a black and white version.
