Dune landscape just after sunset - acrylic on canvas by Hans Sturris

by Galerie Ringoot

Dune landscape just after sunset is a warm, glowing acrylic painting by Hans Sturris in which you can almost literally feel the afterglow of the evening sky.

The setting sun sets the dunes ablaze: a sea of orange, gold and red flows through the landscape, while the forest on the right rises like a dark backdrop. Between the tree trunks, unexpected greens and turquoises sparkle - as if a last glimmer of daylight is still seeping between the leaves.

The work is inspired by the dunes and woods around Schoorl in the province of Noord-Holland and exudes that typical atmosphere of an Indian summer evening: warm, quiet and intense. The style is semi-illustrative and sits right on the interface of abstract and figurative: you recognise the landscape, but the paint strokes remain free and expressive, keeping the work moving.

Hans Sturris is an illustrator and storyteller (known for his children's book illustrations, among other things). That narrative feeling is also present here: this is not a landscape, but a scene - a moment in which, as a viewer, you can dream on.

The original painting measures 110 × 90 cm.
