About ‘Dubai Spice Market’ by Rene van Heerdt

We didn't go to Dubai for the height, the glamour or the promise of the latest. The real reason was hidden in an alleyway, among metal bowls full of herbs. The spice market. That was the anchor point of this trip.

Here, Dubai does not show off, but waits. Hills of saffron, turmeric, dried flowers and resins form a landscape that explains nothing and sells nothing but itself. The colours are intense, but not garish. They are created by time, by drying, grinding and storing. By hands.

The air is heavy with scent. Not one scent, but dozens at once. Every step shifts the balance. Cinnamon gives way to cumin, flowers to something earthy and bitter. It demands attention. Those who glance briefly will mainly see colour. Those who linger will notice that everything slows down. The light helps with this. Warm, filtered, irregular. Some herbs glow as if they are glowing, others disappear halfway into the shadows. It is not a perfect composition, but an honest one. This is not a backdrop for photographs. This is a place you must experience before you capture it.

Behind all the modernity of Dubai, this market reminds us of something essential. Trade as an encounter. The senses as a guide. Perhaps that is why we went there. Not to see how far the world can go, but to feel where it comes from.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
