About ‘Dreaming of You – Colourful Modern Portrait of a Woman’ by Arjen Roos

In *Dreaming of You*, the world seems to stand still for a moment. The woman has her eyes closed, her face turned slightly upwards. Is she dreaming, thinking of someone, or simply savouring a moment in which the outside world ceases to exist? It is precisely this stillness that I wanted to capture in this work.

The portrait is composed of bold black lines, delicate sketched details and translucent-looking areas of colour reminiscent of watercolour. Soft shades of pink, blue, ochre, green and lilac blend together around the face. Contrasting with these are the dark lines and the warm red lips, which, as a small but powerful splash of colour, immediately catch the eye. The loose splashes of ink lend the whole piece a spontaneous, almost hand-drawn energy.

My work is created using digital mixed media, in which I combine various imaging techniques, digital editing and painterly elements into a single layered composition. In *Dreaming of You*, I deliberately sought to explore the tension between refined portraiture and the freedom of a sketch: some lines appear unfinished, whilst colours are allowed to move beyond their imaginary boundaries.

Thanks to the light background and versatile colour palette, this colourful modern portrait of a woman suits both minimalist and bold interiors. It can serve as an atmospheric piece of art for the living room or bedroom, but also as an elegant statement piece for lovers of modern portraiture, figurative art and contemporary wall art.

My work exists at the intersection of modern Pop Art and Expressionism, with influences from Modernism. Contrast, whether in light, color, or subject, plays a central role in my art. The color red is often prominently featured.

Each piece I create tells a story. I produce both portraits and abstract compositions, combining mixed media and generative art, such as programmed filters. Sometimes, this results in works that take the form of a collage. When my subjects…
