Down to the sea | Tellaro, Liguria by Kilometer 120 | René Metzinger

A narrow stone staircase leads down to the Mediterranean, whilst the last light of day slowly fades over the Ligurian coast. The warm metal of the banister reflects the colours of the sunset, guiding the eye from the rocky foreground out across the water to the mountains on the horizon. The photograph was taken in Tellaro on the Italian Riviera. The deliberately chosen long exposure makes the movement of the sea visible: the water flows gently over the rocks and the small stone platform, whilst individual structures of the surf remain distinct. It is precisely this contrast between the solid, rough stones and the flowing water that lends the image its particular depth.

The portrait format emphasises the perspective of the steps and almost gives the feeling of walking down the final steps towards the sea yourself. The warm tones of the evening light contrast with the cooler colours of the water and rocks.

As a wall art piece, this photograph is particularly well-suited to narrow wall spaces, hallways or areas next to staircases and doors. Even in a calmly furnished living room or bedroom, the vertical format can serve as a beautiful focal point and bring a touch of Italian coastal atmosphere into the room.
