Distinguished courtship, Willem Pietersz. Buytewech, c. 1616 - c. 1620 oil on canvas, h 56,3cm × w 70,5cm.
The seated woman tries to seduce the young man by offering him rosebuds. He turns away from her and puts his hand on the head of his dog, his wise guide. This boy will be fine. The other couple opts for frivolous love: they leave the gloves - a symbol of marriage - on the ground.
