The Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is an attack fighter that operates from aircraft carriers. The aircraft is a further development of the F/A-18 Hornet. In 1992, the United States Navy ordered the aircraft from McDonnell Douglas, which had since been acquired by Boeing. The first flight took place in 1996 and the first landing on an aircraft carrier in 1997. In 1999, the type entered service to replace the Grumman F-14 Tomcat. Nicknamed the Super Hornet 'Rhino', this picture was taken during the airshow at NAS Ocean on 17 September 2017.
