Deventer: The Waag by Night – A historical reflection in the rain by Fotografiecor .nl

The Waag on the Brink in Deventer is an iconic building, but during a rain shower the square transforms into a mirror-like surface. In this photograph, we capture the warm lighting of the building and the surrounding façades, which are reflected in the wet cobblestones. The rain deepens the saturation of the colours and lends the whole scene an almost melancholic, yet warm atmosphere that is typical of Dutch evenings in an old Hanseatic city.

People often avoid the rain, but for me that is the moment when the city comes to life. The wet cobblestones of the Brink reflect every little light like a star on the ground, and the Deventer Waag seems all the more imposing in that reflection. It feels like a secret moment between me and the city; a silence broken only by the soft patter of the rain. Capturing this fleeting moment of reflection is my way of revealing the soul of Deventer.

This image brings a sense of depth and atmosphere to your interior. The intense reflections and the warm light make it a striking piece of art for a living room or study. It is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to bring the characteristic atmosphere of Deventer into their home, whatever the weather.
