A man sits on a bench, engrossed in his phone, while in front of him a majestic waterfall cascades down. Nature is showing itself at its best: green trees, rock formations and the glistening blue of the water. Yet he does not look up. The silence, the beauty, the moment - everything slips past him unnoticed.
The inspiration for this work comes from the modern contrast between man and nature. Where silence used to be a rare luxury, it now seems to be something we have to actively fight for. The phone in his hand symbolises the constant tugging at our attention - the "burning device" that never rests. Man is physically present but mentally absent.
The style combines soft watercolour colours with sharp, stencil-like lines. The shadowy human figure stands out brightly against the light background - a deliberate choice that emphasises how disconnected he is from his surroundings.
The atmosphere is both peaceful and unsettling. In an interior, this work invites reflection: when was the last time you really looked around without distraction?
