About the artwork

A reflective art print for your wall?

In deep blue, a white figure stands between a tulip and a nettle. Soft and prickly. Receptive and repellent. Who or what is missing from this image? Who is not given a place, yet is palpably present?

In family systems, an excluded person or experience can persist. Someone who is no longer spoken about. A part of yourself that you once had to hide. The tulip is a reminder of vulnerability. The nettle of boundaries and protection. And in between: you?

Whatever is excluded knocks on the door sooner or later. Not to be seen, but to be allowed to belong somewhere again.

The cyanotype technique is the origin of photography. Working with the elements: sun, water, air and natural materials creates an intuitive process - you never know exactly what the outcome will be.

The various blue (=cyan) to deep blue colours are characteristic of this technique. This application of cyanotype is innovative and rarely (if ever) shown in this way.
