About "Cubed Oscillations 2 - Expansion"

by elkement

About the artwork

Harmonic oscillations are building blocks of nearly anything in physics. The artwork is highlighting the beauty of the underlying math, but also speaks for itself as an abstract piece of geometric art.

Three-dimensional Lissajous figures described by sin(5t)/sin(8t)/sin(11t). Projected to the three co-ordinate planes, the more familiar 2D Lissajous figures emerge - three combinations of two of these functions, like sin(5t)/sin(8t). Part of a series of four artworks, each showing the same structure from a different viewpoint.

Pure spectral colors are used for aesthetic reasons, unrelated to the math of these oscillations. Contrasting rainbow colors with white is a nod to dispersion though.

Science-inspired art with a science-fiction-like appeal, envisaged to be hung on the wall of the (home) office of a technical expert or scientist.

Digital art created with hand-crafted code - no AI.
