Crystal Prisms Bursting from a Star

by Skye Studio

Three long, rectangular crystals burst outward from a small jagged star at the centre, one rising to the top and two sweeping toward the lower corners, each a perfect prism in stark black and white. Their faces alternate between solid black and clean white, with a hair-thin gap between each plane, so the columns seem to catch light on one side and sink into shadow on the other. At the tip of each prism sits a flat diamond-shaped cap, like the cut end of a quartz point.

Between the three main arms, shorter blocks interlock like fragments of the same mineral, filling the gaps and giving the whole figure a dense, faceted body. The central star has a dozen small, sharp points, and every arm seems to spring from it as if from an explosion frozen in place.

The depth plays tricks: the prisms can read as pushing toward the viewer or as receding into the page, and the eye keeps switching between the two. The mood is bold, mineral and cosmic, somewhere between a crystal cluster, a pinwheel and a diagram of an energy burst. With a nod to the geometry of crop circle patterns, it will appeal to anyone who loves isometric illusions, crystals and strong black-and-white graphics.
