About "Courage to discover - The monument to the Portuguese seafarers"

About the artwork

This picture shows a fascinating section of the Padrão dos Descobrimentos in Lisbon - a monument that epitomises the irrepressible spirit of discovery of an entire nation. Carved in gleaming limestone, 33 figures run along the sides of the stylised ship - explorers, missionaries, cartographers, poets and heroes. The proud armada is led by Henry the Navigator, a visionary who ventured into the unknown.

The photograph masterfully captures the richness of detail and the dynamism of this group of figures. You can almost feel the salty breeze of the Atlantic, the hope, the departure, but also the seriousness of the missions. The intense contrast between the clear blue of the sky and the light-coloured stone enhances the effect of this national homage to the Epoca dos Descobrimentos - the Age of Discoveries.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers. Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
