Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.
Move your phone gently from side to side. Holding it still or waving it around quickly does not help.
Make sure there is enough light. In a dark room your phone has nothing to lock onto.
The artwork appears at its true size, so you cannot scale it in AR. Want a different size? Close AR and pick the size on the product page.
Still nothing? Open this page in Chrome or Safari. AR does not work in the browser of apps such as Instagram or Facebook.

About ‘Cottage in North Holland’ by Geert Van Baelen

A landscape I photographed in North Holland, close to the North Sea. A small cottage, tucked away in a bleak and expansive landscape, immediately caught my eye. The combination of the solitary dwelling, the open space and the threatening sky created a special atmosphere. It is a typical image of the Dutch coastal landscape, where wind, water and nature constantly leave their mark on the surroundings.

For this landscape photograph, I deliberately chose black-and-white photography. By omitting the colours, the focus is entirely on the shapes, textures, contrasts and various shades of grey. The darker areas give the landscape a rugged and almost desolate feel, whilst the lighter shades provide depth and subtlety. This creates a timeless image in which the atmosphere is more important than the exact moment.

The little cottage forms the natural focal point of the photograph. Set against the vastness of the landscape, it appears vulnerable and isolated, yet at the same time it feels as though it belongs here entirely. The combination of nature, simplicity and a slightly melancholic atmosphere makes this, for me, a typical example of the quiet beauty to be found along the North Holland coast.

An atmospheric black-and-white landscape photograph of North Holland, featuring the North Sea, a solitary cottage and the characteristic Dutch coastal landscape as its key elements.
