The name lionfish (Spanish: pez león, English: Lion Fish; "lionfish") usually refers to scorpion fish of the genus Pterois. However, the taxonomy of scorpion fish is rather complicated and there is no consensus about it. Furthermore, the Dutch name lionfish is also used for fish from other genera of Scorpaenidae such as Parapterois, Brachypterois, Dendrochirus and Ebosia.
